Periodontal Maintenance Procedures

Following active Periodontal therapy, we will schedule you for Periodontal Maintenance Procedures and will establish a plan for periodic ongoing care at an interval that is tailored to your prior periodontal condition and the results of your active periodontal therapy.

This care by the hygienist includes an update of the medical history, an evaluation of the periodontal status, removal of bacterial plaque from crevicular and pocket areas, scaling and root planing where indicated, polishing, and review of the patient's plaque control efficiency. In addition, you will get a regular, periodic dental examination for any new decay, problems with any existing restorations and an Oral Cancer Screening.

The time of the interval will vary, depending on your own personal information. For some people, every 6 months is sufficient, but for others 3 or 4 times a year means scheduling every 3 or 4 months.

It is very important to keep your Recare (Recall) appointments as Periodontal Disease doesn’t take a break and if there are areas where it is hard for you to reach and keep clean, then the hardened calculus (tartar) will build up and only a dental professional can get it off.
